Building a Professional Network: The 2-5-15 Strategy
Good morning. I’m Stephen Woessner, the CEO of Predictive ROI and the host of our daily podcast for business owners called Onward Nation.
I hope you’ve had a wonderful week.
However it is that you’ve come to our website, I want to thank you. Listeners of the Onward Nation Podcast know that I say this often — and if you’re a listener, I cannot thank you enough — but I am so grateful that you would spend some of your valuable time with us by listening to Onward Nation — and — reading this blog post. We all have the same 86,400 seconds in our day — and I thank you — from the bottom of my heart — for spending some of your time with us.
If you’ve never listened to Onward Nation — I urge you to please give us a listen. I know what you’re thinking right now. You’re thinking Stephen, you just want my download. You just want your numbers to grow. It is true — of course — that all of us here at Predictive ROI want Onward Nation to grow. Producing Onward Nation is a major time commitment — and of course we want to see our numbers build. However — I believe that the lessons our guests teach us — day in and day out — are lessons that you can use to grow your business and improve your life.
And I’m going to share one of those lessons with you today.
On Wednesday, our guest was the incomprable Morag Barrett, and she was absolutely outstanding. She delivered powerful lesson after powerful lesson, and I’m going to share one with you that you can put into practice today to make an immediate impact on your business.
Morag shared a strategy from one of her team members, Eric. He talks about a strategy for building a professional network — the “2-5-15” strategy — and this is a truly rock solid awesome strategy that will help you achieve the growth in business that you want.
As Morag told me in our interview, this strategy is pretty simple. It’s the combination of 2 face-to-face meetings of your choice with a current or prospective client, 5 phone calls with someone about a potential piece of work, and finally 8 more (for a total of 15) ways of reaching out to people. The catch: none of the 15 people can be repeated.
And the best part about this strategy? You can choose the timeframe that works best for you. So if repeating the “2-5-15” every single day works for you, that’s wonderful. But if you need to go slower — if you can only repeat “2-5-15” every week or month or year — that’s fine too. The secret to any great strategy is making that strategy the right one for you.
Let’s say you decide to repeat this strategy for building a professional network every week — that seems like a good timeframe for most of us. If you connect to 15 different people every week — and you don’t connect with any repeated contacts in a month — that’s 60 people you’re connecting with during a given month. That’s a great way to drive business.
So try this strategy out — and please, let me know how it works for you. I know I’ll be trying it too.
Thanks for reading.
Onward with gusto!
