Digital Marketing Channels: Pick The Platform That Makes The Most Sense

Digital Marketing Channels: Pick The Platform That Makes The Most Sense

Good morning. I’m Stephen Woessner, the CEO of Predictive ROI and the host of our daily podcast for business owners called Onward Nation.

I hope you’ve had a wonderful week.

However it is that you’ve come to our website, I want to thank you. Listeners of Onward Nation know that I say this often — and if you’re a listener, I cannot thank you enough — but I am so grateful that you would spend some of your valuable time with us by listening to Onward Nation — and — reading this blog post. We all have the same 86,400 seconds in our day — and I thank you — from the bottom of my heart — for spending some of your time with us.

If you’ve never listened to Onward Nation — I urge you to please give us a listen. I know what you’re thinking right now. You’re thinking Stephen, you just want my download. You just want your numbers to grow. It is true — of course — that all of us here at Predictive ROI want Onward Nation to grow. Producing Onward Nation is a major time commitment — and of course we want to see our numbers build. However — I believe that the lessons our guests teach us — day in and day out — are lessons that you can use to grow your business and improve your life.

And I’m going to share one of those lessons with you. Today, our guest talks about choosing the right digital marketing channels for your business.

On Tuesday we brought back my good friend and mentor Drew McLellan for an encore episode of Onward Nation. You may remember Drew from his incredible interview on episode 32 — or — from when we flipped the table around and Drew interviewed me on episode 100.

In these new “encore” episodes, I’m asking asking each of our amazing returning guests to share some strategies for choosing digital marketing channels and building a platform. Drew gave some incredible advice that I’m going to share with you right now.

But before I can tell you what Drew said about how to build a platform — it’s important that I share with you what he said about why you would build one. As Drew told me, you have to do it for the right reasons.

“If you’re doing it because everyone is telling you to, because you want to have a following — that’s yucky. And people are going to know. You’re not really going to build a tribe if it’s all about you.”

And of course, Drew is right. We can’t attempt to build a platform without a good reason. It would be like trying to build a house without a solid foundation — it would never work — and that’s a guarantee.

So — if you’ve got a reason to build a platform — if you’ve got something of value to share — how do you do it?

“Once you figure out what it is that you have to uniquely offer, then you can figure out the platforms where it makes the most sense. Is it a blog? Is it a podcast? Is it on Facebook? It’s going to depend on the expertise you decide to share.”

You hit the nail right on the head there, Drew.

Would it make much sense for me to record 45-60 minute interviews with our Onward Nation guest and then try to release them in 15 second chunks on Instagram? Of course not. Podcasts are the platform that makes the most sense for these interviews.

So — whatever message you want to distribute to your audience — you have to analyze that message and then pick the platform or platforms that makes the most sense for the distribution of that message.

Thanks for reading.

Onward with gusto!
